Death and other fears

What would happen if you knew you would die? One of humanity’s fear is the time of death, even when we speak of it the air seems different, our lives begin to weigh an unusual amount.

But what’s the problem with death? We know everything perishes, that life has a cycle: after we are born, we grow, we repoduce and then we die. There is nothing else but to face the end of a process, but why is it so hard? It seems that death or talking about it is something that brings bad luck like if we are going to die soon just for sayig the words, when in fact it is something that happens. We will not be conscious, we will stop feeling, stop thinking; there is nothing but decomposition. But is that it?

If our life was lived and then puf! we just disappear, then why is it so hard to accept this truth? It takes us to a lonely place where we don’t want to go, but if we haven’t experienced death, then why is it so hard? We are afraid of something that we don’t know what is going to happen; that is unknown and that seems like a menace.

Our lives become meaningful when we see the end of them: what have we done that is worth living here and now? what will others think of me? will they even remember? Those questions we make are in our subconscious hidden, when we should be living conscious of them to make our life worth living and full of meaning. Socrates faced death with a clear consciousness that helped him have justice, like a price that is earned.

Death is not a punishment, but a prize won after living a just and fair life, with meaning and with sense of what is true and our efforts to make it worth it. If we are afraid, then we must reflect on what we are afraid of or we won’t let go.
