Wall-e the new superhero
Everything in life must be controlled; not too much of something nor too little. There must be a balance in things. Humankind has learned that moderation is the key to a successful life. Consumerism has shown us that it is never enough; there is nothing we need because we have become unsatisfied with the world, as the Rolling Stones’ song: “I can’t get no satisfaction”. We are dependent on what the market has to offer, no matter if it is good or bad; we want it.
If we still have this attitude in years to come, we will have destroyed nature and ourselves. Everyone has a price, everyone wants more, but nobody wants to lose, and what we can lose is the only thing we really have: ourselves on Earth. Disney talks about consumerism and the danger we face if we don’t stop buying and polluting the world.
Technology has helped us make our lives easier in tasks we don’t want to do anymore; that is why our new superhero is not a man, nor an alien, nor a god. It is a machine made to store trash and compile it: Wall-e. In a place where technology has driven ourselves to avoid reality, it also helps us to fix things we aren’t willing to face. A machine will help us to see ourselves as we really are and restore our humanity lost in technology.
