An opinion is just that, don’t make it a truth
The problem with social media is that we can find many topics, relevant or not, about whatever things may show up in our newsfeed. We see people comment anything and many others judge as if they have the truth, and then someone opposess for fun or because they don’t agree. We can join the fight or just become an espectator and wait for the winner to make a point. Also social pages post «the truth about…», «A scientific study shows…», «A specialist recommends…», and many others catching phrases that make us read, but then the same pages post the exact opposit. It is as if they don’t realize that they are contradicting themselves. «Love yourself, weight is not important» and then we read «Earn that flat stomach to be happy».
We see every topic, news, studies and posts as if they were absolute when they are not. Social media is not about showing the truth, it just a place to have opinions without impossing. That’s why we all can participate in discussions and points of view. That’s why we need to stop making a fuzz about others, if we can express ourselves, others have that same right.
We need to learn the difference, choose our own battles and focus on the point: is it just an opinion? Or is it a statement that can be corrected?
Social media is an opinion generator, that is why people always contradict themselves post after post. But what about public figures?
If we are public figures like scientists, politics, teachers or religious authorities; people will not take for granted what we post, we need to be coherent with the messages we are posting. Instead of judging others, let’s see our posts and make a point for our followers to follow us and not just entertain them, but to leave them with a good taste about themselves. In CAFE&co. we try to post anything that can help you feel good about yourself every time you read us.
