Be wrong
Life has shown us many ways to deal with it, one is to pretend we are perfect and we make no mistakes (which we always do), the other is to present oneself as a failure and be the victim of a destiny that doesn’t want us to succeed (which I a comfort lie that we tell ourselves to avoid responsibility), and the middle one: to keep moving forward despite the failures because that is the only way to learn and be better.
As human beings, we aspire to perfection, but that doesn’t mean we are imperfect, if we were what is the point to get out of bed? nor we are perfect, why get up if we are done? we are a work in progress open to perfection, and that is what makes us who we are. Social media has shown us a myth, the myth of perfection, of certainty of what life is about, and is a lie, because every day is all about struggle and hard work, to get up and fight obstacles and to overcome them.
Our life is filled with uncertainty, that is why we tend to get certainty through science, to have every fact in the grasp of our hand, to have the solutions with us, but life is not about being certain. Having all the answers haven’t changed our lives for the better, it only made us know facts but not live by them, we have more troubles and ideologies have filled our minds.
The obsession with being right all the time is stressful and joyless, they don’t enjoy life and whatever happens. They focus on what is missing, what lacks, instead of enjoying the present and the good time. Many people become so obsessed with being “right” about their life that they never end up actually living it.
To know everything and having all in control make us static. Certainty is the enemy of growth. Nothing is for certain until it has already happened—and even then, it’s still debatable. That’s why accepting the inevitable imperfections of our values is necessary for any growth to take place. If everything is perfect we don’t move from our comfort zone, so we don’t grow, we stay the same.
Instead of striving for certainty, we should be in constant search of doubt: doubt about our own beliefs, doubt about our own feelings, doubt about what the future may hold for us unless we get out there and create it for ourselves. Keep always moving to achieve greatness, through practice and acknowledging our mistakes.
Instead of looking to be right all the time, we should be looking for how we’re wrong all the time. Because we are. Being wrong opens us up to the possibility of change. Being wrong brings the opportunity for growth. It means not cutting your arms open to cure a cold or splashing dog piss on your face to look young again. It means not thinking “mediocre” is a vegetable, and not being afraid to care about things.
Some of the most difficult and stressful moments of our lives also end up being the most formative and motivating. Some of the best and most gratifying experiences of our lives are also the most distracting and demotivating. Don’t trust your conception of positive/negative experiences. All that we know for certain is what hurts at the moment and what doesn’t.
