Choose what to remember

In life we become spectators of whatever happens around us, information is gathered in our memories but most of the time we don’t know why. We think that our memory is a passive faculty that only receives information that from time to time we tend to use and sometimes we lose information.

Saint Augustine refer to the memory as a sensorial faculty as important as Intelligence and Will to guarantee a good life and an ethical one that can lead us to happiness. If we remember who we are and what we want, then we can act accordingly unifying our Intelligence and Will to achieve what we want.

Perhaps we think that there is something wrong with our memory, we kay be lacking a good memory. But the fact is that we didn’t consider that information relevant to be held in our lives. It may be because of our personal situation, our emotions, or we were too tired to pay attention to the details.

We remember what we want to remember, we forget what we choose to forget so we can go on learning. Our memories prioritize what is important and relevant from the other things that may not be relevant to survive.

Memorizing is relevant to our survival, not only to gather information but it is essential to make the right choice and having the right decision.
