Dunkirke and Churchill
The Dunkirke war fought at the beginning of WWII was critical for winning the war. At first, it was only a sucide-mission to send 400 thousand soldiers againt the Nazi invasion of the Neatherlands.
Winston Churchill: «This is as my experience, my knowledge of warfare count for nothing.»
The movie Churchill talks about the desition he has to make to send soldiers to fight the German but the strategy seems to be wasted because there is no protection for the young men fighting. The US and French, the Allies, were fighting to defend Europe from Hitler’s invasion. UK’s Prime Minister Winston Churchill who doesn’t want to fight along France in a war that is lost from the beggining.
«This is not a war for glory, this is a war for freedom!»
Christopher Nolan’s movie Dunkirke shows us what happened at the beaches of Neatherlands and why Churchill was against the war. The advantage of the nazis left the British unprotected from air and land attacks. Being at war doesn’t mean everyone is a pawn. Instead Churchill shows us there is still human dignity at war and not only power.
Tommy: [last dialogue] We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be…
Alex: What?
Tommy: We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches. We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. and even if this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.
