¿Geography affects us?

One of the most important questions we make ourselves is: who am I? And that question has 2 parts: where do we come from? and what I want in life? If we do not know the answer, we need to go to our past to protect our identity, and to the future to get what we want and keep on going, so we can be able to act in the present. And being on earth means the first step to understanding who am I.

In different parts of the planet, different geographical features are among the dominant factors in determining what people can and cannot do.

Factors such as these can have an important impact on many different aspects of our civilization, from political and military strategy to human social development, including language, trade and religion.

Again it was clear that the move south was on hold until geography finished having its say. The rules of geography, which Hannibal, Sun Tzu and Alexander the Great all knew, still apply to today’s leaders its strategic importance and understanding of how political realities are shaped by the most basic physical realities.

Geopolitics affects every country, whether at war, as in the examples above, or at peace. There will be instances in every region you can name. It suggests that nature is more powerful than man and that we can only go so far in determining our own fate.

Of course, geography does not dictate the course of all events. Great ideas and great leaders are part of the push and pull of history. But they must all operate within the confines of geography.

We are determined by our genetics, culture, religion, ideas, social class and other people, but all of this is in a territory that allows us to develop, considering geography is an element that allows us to know ourselves in our national identity: where do we come from?
