Nequid nimis
Hope when you take that jump, you don’t fear the fall
Hope when the water rises, you built a wall
Hope when the crowd screams out, they’re screaming your name
Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stayHope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad
The only way you can know is give it all you have
And I hope that you don’t suffer but take the pain
Hope when the moment comes, you’ll say…I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I livedOne Republic «I lived»
Nequid nimis is a latin saying not to exceed ourselves; everything with moderation. This saying may be missed nowadys; with YOLO we are living like there are no consequences. We have not learnt what moderation is and what it isn’t.
We could consider that Only Living Once everyday is a new opportunity to live, but having many lives as in a video game, can prevent us from living a plentiful life. If we consider not too many lives but a certain death, we are able to see that we only have one chance to nail it. Death may come as a threat to those who waste their opportunities, but when you have done what you had the chance, death becomes an ally.
Life has to be lived to the fullest not to the fastest. In a fast life there is no joy, a true life is meaningful. Do things that matter not for fun or pleasure, but because they make you better.
