Not my fault

There are many things that happen around us; some of them are good, some are bad, but we are all affected by them. We can’t control what is happening around us but we all have a shared responsibility for how we react and what we do after the things happen. I mean, no matter what happens, we can control what we say, do or how we react to those things. For example, if someone falls down the stairs, it is not our fault that it happened, but it is our fault what happens afterward: laugh, scream, curse, etc.
We may not change the way things work or how the universe conspires against us, but we can control what is happening inside us and how we can react to the world. Perhaps the world is making our lives impossible, but we have the ability to spit back at it… It all depends on the way we want to live.
The Stoics propose two choices to live this life: we can either accept it and be happy or we can be the victims and suffer it. Things will continue to happen, own up to the fact that we are all responsible for what we do, and yes, that that is our fault.

If you can’t control something, then you shouldn’t break your head about it, even less if that thing already happened, you can’t change it. Most of the people’s problems are related to things they can’t control, that’s the reason why so many people suffer all the time, they think everything is their fault or that the world is against them. The only thing you can control is how that event or situation affects you one it happened, and you can take it either in a good or a bad way.
When something happens, most people overreact about it, not realising it’s not as bad as it seems at first. One should always try to prevent bad events or situations that can possibly happen, but if you did all that was in your power and it still happened, then it isn’t your fault.
Don’t misunderstood this with being ignorant about a problem, because if you know that you can do something to prevent a situation and you ignore it, then it’s your fault.
That’s the reason why you should always do the best you can, and hope that it goes that way, and if it doesn’t, the way you face it is all that’s left.

While I agree that you are responsible of how you react to the circumstances around you, I have a different opinion to the stoics. I don´t believe your only optios when facing unfavorable cimrmumstances are to accept them and be happy or suffer being a victim of them. You can be unhappy about the things that are happening to you and decide to do something about it, try to change your landscape with hard work and get rid of whatever you are not happy with. If you only accept the things that happen to you, no matter how positive your attitude is, you will never be happy if you don´t fight to make things be the way you want and instead just settle for the lesser evil.

Indeed, there are a million things that we cannot control and affect us directly or indirectly, whether or not we realize it. A person´s set of beliefs is what will guide his or her reaction when facing situations that go against personal plans, expectations, or even integrity. Here lies the importance of developing a realistic, positive, and proactive mindset. We each are responsible of doing this. The same hard circumstances can be lived by two persons, but each person´s greatness will be patent in how they each react.
