Rules are meant to be broken

There are rules that help us have an easier life. Most of them are there to establish an order, so everyone can live in peace and avoid conflict. In addition, rules help make a system in society. This means that not only does it regulate but also establishes limits of action in the same way.

There are many norms in every aspect of our lives that help us regulate our actions and the way we behave in society. However, there are some that are unjust, or they do not respect the common good. Those rules are to be broken because there are more important laws to follow such as those which always help humanity be better.

The tragic play written by Sophocles «Antigone» is one perfect example of how laws tend to be just, but they aren’t just in themselves. Another example is Plato’s Dialogue «Eutyphro» which explains that when we are in a complex situation, when a law interferes with another law, we have to make a choice and decide which is the good.

Nevertheless, what happens when our legal system contradicts itself? There is only a law that can rule us no matter what happens: our common sense or natural law that simplifies our decision to make a good choice.
