The risk of «knowing yourself»
From ancient times at the porch of one of the most important oracles, the Delphi oracle where people from all over the world wanted to know their fate or their future by being in touch with the gods, but to enter there was a phrase to think about things to learn in life and be happy: «Know thyself». That is a phrase by which Socrates dedicated his whole philosophy by.
To know oneself is to be aware of our capacity to live happy in life or at least without existencial crisis, because we know who we are and what we can do to achieve our wishes. This principle will grant us happiness because we know what we want and what we can put the effort to achieve it. Is it good to know who we are?
«Knowing yourself» can be dangerous affair and it can mess up our lives. It can cement you in a strict role and saddle you with unnecessary expectations. It can close you off to inner potential and other opportunities. Don’t find yourself. Never know who you are. Because that’s what keeps you striving and discovering. And it forces you to remain humble in your judgements and accepting of the differences in others.
If we deny knowing ourselves is an opportunity to be unnoticed, to be carried by others because we are not able to accomplish anything, we cannot be able to take decisions in life, nor manage our future, we need to be carried, and let others decide our future. To let other handle our lives and be victims to the changes that surrounds us take out the responsibility of our own happiness, if we even want one.
