Focus on what we have

All over the world we’ve been hearing about floods. There are so many countries and people affected by them. They lose their lives, their properties, their families, everything seems to be lost.  The amount of water that falls and the constant change of climate leave us wondering about how we affect the planet.

In our daily life we are faced with the force of nature: at high seas, winds, earthquakes, and all sorts of natural disasters make us wonder what we are doing with our lives. Perhaps we are faced with nature’s wrath, or maybe we are faced with other things that harm us like human actions: tyranny, drugs, mafia, violence, etc.

All the things that happen to us that overwhelm us are those that keep us grounded to what our lives are about. What are we doing wrong? What we need to be changed and to change the rest of us is for us to improve ourselves; to value what we have left and who we are to be better.

We may think that happiness is far gone with those bad things, and we tend to focus only on the bad stuff. Also, we take what we have, who we are and who we can be for granted. A loss is terrible and it is necessary, but the things that stay are also necessary to keep on going.

Instead of seeing what we lost or left us, why not focus on what we still have? People, friends, things that stuck to us, not because they had to or by chance, but because we are meant something to be valuable.
