Jumanji the game of life

Alan Parrish, 1969: [reads] Jumanji: a game for those who seek to find / a way to leave their world behind. You roll the dice to move your token, doubles gets another turn, the first player to reach the end wins.

Judy Shepherd: [reads] Adventurers beware: do not begin unless you intend to finish. The exciting consequences of the game / will vanish only when a player has reached Jumanji and called out its name.

The movie Jumanji showed us that «It’s all fun and games until the fat lady sings». It is when life gets complicated that we are being tested for our skills in life. Having a true meaning in life is all about taking responsability in the little things; every day performing actions that make the world a better place. Alan Parrish learned that when he got swallowed inside the game on a jungle for 20 years.

Life is ruled by the law of the jungle: only the strongest survive. If we are here in the world we have one mission: survive. Life is full of dangers, not like living in a jungle, but many risks we face simulate one. There is no hunter or nemesis trying to kill us but our fears and insecurities are. There is no stampede following us, but there is all the information and the media chasing us. There are no monsoons to flood us or alligators trying to kill us, but we have all the consumism trying to eat up all our savings. Perhaps this jungle is not an actual jungle, but with all the news and technology that is going around us, we seem to be in one. The jungle of information, ideologies and movements that are attacking us like snakes.

Dr. Smolder Bravestone: I can’t do this!

Moose Finbar: I saw you fix a helicopter in mid-air!

Dr. Smolder Bravestone: It’s easy to be a hero when you have lives to spare… it’s a lot harder when you have just one.

Moose Finbar: We have only one life. That’s how it is.

Jumanji is not a board game anymore, it is now a game console that keeps taking us to the jungle to learn that the true value in life is not all the lives we have until the game is over, but the true sense of living our lives as if there is nothing else left. There is no plan B, it is only A plan:
  1. survive in the best way possible
  2. keep your friends near
  3. be true to yourself, you can do it
  4. no one is the exception
  5. life has more to show us than what we think
  6. everything is a lesson to make it in this life alive
