Nothing lasts, it is art!
What is art? when we wonder about art, we realize that not everybody can do it. If everyone could, then we’d all be artists. Art is something beyond a single technique as Plato would define it, nor is it just an imitation of nature. It isn’t just a therapy for the common people to purge their passions or troubles as Aristotle explains it, nor is it a representation of the Creation made by God as in the Middle Ages. It doesn’t represent a feeling as Modern art pretended to do, and it isn’t the innovation and nonsense in our lives. Art is much more and in part, it is some of what in other ages conceived it.
The difference between your kindergarten drawing that your mother liked and an artist, as simple as his or her art may seem is none existent because art is useless. Art doesn’t have something that we can use; it is pointless but also that is how life is. There are many things in life that we cannot understand and are still there that is how art is. In addition, the artist doesn’t have a meaning hidden nor a context but his or her own to represent it without the idea of utilizing it; it is just there.
Nowadays many people think that art is something approved by anyone or it depends on our taste. But that is far from the truth because art is not something of taste but the sublime. The experience of something else that we cannot grasp because of the intangibility of itself is just like water slipping through our fingers.
This weekend Banksy sold one of his paintings for an amazing amount. The problem is that the painting self-destructed by the sound of the hammer at an auction. We may think of it as an act of rebellion, or against the system, but the fact is that art is pointless; it is meaningless unless we make it meaningful.
