Should we be happy if others aren’t?

Life has many aspects that may seem unavoidable or we may think it is just luck. Perhaps we haven’t done anything special or we think we may not deserve the life we are having; we may think we have been «blessed» or simply life is not that hard for us.

There are many things we may be grateful for, or we may say that for others life is just impossible because they suffer or they live in a situation of injustice, war, poverty, loneliness, depression, sickness or any other terrible situation.

Well, life is not about fairness; we just have this life and we are responsible for it. No matter what the circumstances are, it just has been given to us and we may as well enjoy it the best way we can use all our possibilities to have a rich life. We don’t need something dramatic to make us change the world or have a mission.

Life is all about what we do with what we can; we are responsible for what comes to us an how we can do the best with it. Happiness does not depend on what we achieve, but what we do with the things we get and make a sense out of it. Therefore, if we are happy, it does not mean we are being selfish.

We need to embrace that happiness, and that is something that depends on us and not on others no matter what we have, where we come from. We can make the impossible possible and so others will learn from us if they want to be happy.
