To act alone is to make a mess, to act together is to build the future

There is an African saying that goes: «alone you get first, together we can go farther», that is the idea of a society: to help each other to achieve much more together. That is why ancient civilizations were great because everyone added to the well being of others, instead of being alone in the survival of life. We need society, as Aristotle used to say: «man is sociable by nature»; we need each other to achieve greatness and growing together is what makes the world a better place to live in. Society is not the problem nor the cause of our deviations and problems; we are what makes it better or worse. We need to stop making other things responsible for our actions. By things I mean ideologies, objects, and ideas that are passive to what we choose to do. As Rosseau used to say «man is good by nature, but society corrupts him or her.» The main problem with this saying is that if a society is built by men and women, then who corrupts who? There is no one to blame but us. Social media has taken the role of facilitating friends all over the world and keeping in touch with our loved ones, but it has also made social circles tighter, where the community has separated from reality into a sense of belonging that ends up chocking, contradicting and harming other members of the society, the real society. We need to be realistic and start by realizing that we live in a world with others that think, act and live differently from us, but that is good because it nourishes us and makes us better.
