Reading a 100 books a year

Once I saw an article that described how we loose time in things that don’t matter, and that time we have between activities was well invested if we dedicate it to reading books. The author said that if we decide to read instead of losing time, we can be able to read 100 books a year. So I decided to accept the challenge and make 2019 the year I could reach that idea and see for myself if it is possible. Well, the year is over and I have realized that I accomplished it. Reading 100 books a year is a lot of books, information and ideas to have in 365 days: I realized that reading may become an obsession to get to the number, instead of enjoying the ride. Reading is like therapy, enjoy it and relax, it supposes to be a fun exercise. The quality of books I have read varies from simple ones (children’s book, like the Ugly Duckling in French) to complex (I am a philosopher, so many books I read are difficult to understand). If you ask me what was the first book I read this year, I haven’t got a clue. That made me realize that sometimes the excess in reading might mix books or simply forget all about them to make way to new ones. So if I wanted to read 100 books without understanding them or knowing what they are all about, what is the point? Reading must be to comprehend, no to pass by words without meaning.

You begin to be flexible, your capacity becomes able to treat different topics at the same time. You can focus on what you want, instead of waiting until inspiration comes.

The knowledge you acquire is amazing, the facts and ideas you get through a book can help you maintain a conversation, start one, avoid uncomfortable silences and makes you a people’s person.  The point of it all is that life comes like a bookshelf, in it you may find many stories, but the most important of them are the ones you use to be better. Don’t miss a book, find what you can to help you be a better person.
