Not so special
Everyone in the world wants to show how special they are, we like to show off our uniqueness and talents, things that distinguish us from others. We all are unique and special, but that doesn’t mean that we are the only ones to deserve things or to be treated differently.
My recommendation: don’t be special; don’t be unique. Redefine your metrics in mundane and broad ways. Choose to measure yourself not as a rising star or an undiscovered genius. Choose to measure yourself not as some horrible victim or dismal failure. Instead, measure yourself by more mundane identities: a student, a partner, a friend, a creator.
In a world that often glorifies the extraordinary, it can be easy to fall into the trap of constantly striving to be special or unique. However, my recommendation is to embrace a different perspective – one that challenges the notion of constant self-validation through extraordinary achievements.
Instead of fixating on being exceptional, consider redefining your metrics of success in more mundane and broad ways. This shift in mindset opens up new possibilities for self-discovery, growth, and contentment.
Start by measuring yourself not as a rising star or an undiscovered genius, but rather as a student of life. Embrace curiosity and a hunger for knowledge, always striving to learn and grow. Approach each day as an opportunity to explore new subjects, expand your horizons, and deepen your understanding of the world.
Measure yourself not as a victim of circumstances or a dismal failure, but rather as a partner in various aspects of your life. Cultivate meaningful and mutually supportive relationships, whether it be in your romantic endeavours, friendships, or professional collaborations. Invest time and energy into nurturing these connections, sharing both joys and challenges along the way.
Measure yourself as a friend, embodying qualities such as empathy, compassion, and trustworthiness. Be there for others in times of need, offering a listening ear and a supportive shoulder. Cultivate connections that bring positivity and joy to your life, and reciprocate those qualities wholeheartedly.
Measure yourself as a creator, regardless of your medium. Embrace your innate ability to bring something new into the world, be it through art, writing, music, or any other form of expression. Allow yourself the freedom to explore your creative impulses, to experiment, and to celebrate the process of bringing ideas to life.
Remember, it is in the everyday moments, in the seemingly mundane aspects of life, that we often find true fulfilment. By embracing these more down-to-earth identities, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities and opportunities for growth and connection.
So, rather than being consumed by the quest for uniqueness, strive to find beauty and meaning in the ordinary. Celebrate being a student, a partner, a friend, and a creator. Embrace the richness of these roles, and let them shape your journey towards a more fulfilling and content life.

Well put. It is too tiring to chase external validation, mostly becuase it always has a head start. Thanks!
