What is fair?

This past weekend the controversial tennis game at the finals in the US Open was disputed between 2 women: the rookie Osaka and the veteran Serena Williams. The championship took us by surprise by the great game in which the Japanese beat the American tennis champion, in the sets 6-6 to 2-4.

Osaka played so well that she defeated the all-time tennis champion in a fair game, but everything went wrong when Williams, in a state of anger, charged against Osaka and was flagged by her lack of sportsmanship. In games and in life when we get angry we lose, that is why Williams was penalized. Especially because we are talking about a veteran in the game and someone who has been playing for so long, there is no excuse to have a behavior like that. The rookie was behaving properly and her effort finally paid off, so she won the championship.

The lame excuse that Williams gave about what happened in the court where she defended herself arguing that even men get mad when competing is a poor explanation for her lack of professional attitude towards a game; in the end, it is not personal.  The ceremony was obscured by the audience that responded horribly to the winning of the Japanese competitor due to the anger that brought Williams to the penalization. She may not have intended to have that reaction, but she did it and she is responsible for it.

What was unjust is that the winner got booed at by the public and her talent which allowed her to beat a legend and one of the best players at tennis was not recognized.

A prime example of what some people call an «Asshole», someone who blames anyone or anything else besides him/herself for their actions. In this controversial match Serena Williams got flagged for poor sportmanship but instead of accepting the consequences for her actions she started screaming at the judge for being a misogynist and how because she was a mother she could do no wrong and overall making a big drama that finally soured the first Grand Slam win of Osaka and lifting her trophy, what should have been one of the happiest moments of her life, she did almost crying, all because of Williams not taking responsibility for her actions and making a scandal out of it.
